Jazz Drum Lesson 3
Bass Drum Comping

This jazz drum lesson covers bass drum comping with syncopated rhythms. A cross-stick or side-stick is played on the snare drum on beat four of each bar. This adds emphasis to the hi-hat back beat and is quite common in jazz music. When comping, the bass drum is not feathered but is played slightly quieter than the hi-hat and ride cymbal.
